What to Bring on your Vacation to Lost Trail Ranch!

Summer Season

For each of our Summer Guests, we recommend bringing the following: towels, linens (sheets and blankets and/or sleeping bag), comfortable hiking shoes, riding boots, clothing for a week in the mountains (where temperatures range from about 65-80 degrees during the day, down to 35-45 degrees at night), a rain jacket for the possible afternoon rain shower, flashlight, sunscreen and hat for the intense Colorado sunshine, a water bottle to take with you when you ride or hike (it’s very important to drink plenty of water when you’re at this high elevation).

Please remember to bring along all the fixings for your meals and snacks while you’re at Lost Trail, because the nearest grocery store is an hour away – and once you’re here, you probably won’t want to leave!  We recommend that you bring along any paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) and cleaning products that you may need for the week, as well.

Our four main cabins each have a full fridge with freezer.  Kitchens have running hot and cold water sinks, 4-burner stoves with oven, and are stocked with pots, pans, plates and utensils - and if there is anything else you might need for cooking up a good hearty ranch meal, chances are we have it here.  Outside of each cabin there is a fire pit and/or a wood and charcoal grill.  If you'd like to use charcoal, don't forget to bring some along.

We would also like to remind you that you should be certain to have on hand any prescription medications that you and anyone in your group may be needing, as well as any recommended medications for high altitude.  A first aid kit containing these items should be considered.

Winter Season

Similar to above, for each of our Winter Guests, we recommend bringing the following: towel, sleeping bag or linens, snow boots, slippers, extra socks, clothing for your stay in the mountains (where temperatures range from about 45 degrees during the day, down to zero degrees at night), a warm coat, hat and gloves, flashlight (there's no street lights here!), sunglasses for the intense Colorado sunshine, a water bottle to take with you when you're out playing in the snow (it’s very important to drink plenty of water when you’re at this high elevation).  Don't forget those x-skis, snow shoes, etc.!

Remember to bring along all the fixings for your meals and snacks while you’re at Lost Trail, because the nearest grocery store is mighty far away (even in good driving conditions).

If you need to make arrangements for our winter shuttle service, any and all gear can be brought in for you, from our parking lot at the Rio Grande Dam to your cabin's front door, there is a $25 fee for each trip.  Please be sure to pack all your items in well sealed duffel bags, suit cases and/or boxes.  Take extra care in packing fragile and/or perishable items.

Please don't hesitate to ask us for our "recommended packing list" for our summer and winter guests.  It also has some good recommendations for our winter guests in HOW to pack!
